Shanghai Day 1 - DISNEYLAND! (eng)

You can read Indonesian version of this post here.

This visit to Shanghai is mainly to come to Shanghai Disneyland which was just opened in June 2016 and is claimed as the world largest Disneyland. This time i traveled with my best friend from the 1st year of senior high school, because my sister who is usually a partner to explore Disneyland is now 15,979 KM away.

JKT-PVG tickets were purchased 6 months ago at a promo price of Air Asia Rp. 3.7 million included meal onboard, excluding luggage. We left on May 11, 18.55 pm from CGK, the landing at KL should be 22:00 KL time, but we just landed in KL at 22.30, so we had to run from the arrival gate to the next plane gate that would take us to Pudong Airport.

The plane arrived at Pudong Airport at around 5 am, we spent the night in the plane. Pudong Airport was still quiet when we arrived, we straightly walked following the directions to the taxi waiting area. We went down 1 floor from the arrival gate, found exit 25, that's where the taxi queue is located. The queue was quite long but it was not a long wait because the taxi is a lot. We got on taxi with the driver that cannot speak english at all, it was hard to explain our destination, until finally we showed him the mandarin writing of Toy Story Hotel, upon which he understood. Either because the tone of his speech or typical mandarin accent, but at that time I felt like the taxi driver shouted at me.

As we reached Toy Story Hotel we directly checked in at the reception, although we could not enter the room because the check in time is 14.00. We simply submitted the booking code and the passport to be copied. When booking the hotel, at the same time we booked tickets to Disneyland, so Disneyland tickets can be directly taken at the concierge after registration at the reception. The Disneyland entrance ticket is RMB 370 or approximately Rp. 700 thousand, almost the same as HongKong Disneyland and Tokyo Disneyland’s ticket price, the most expensive is definitely Paris Disneyland which in 2014 the ticket price was already at Rp. 1.2 million.

Because we could not enter the room, so we planned to leave our bags at the concierge, FYI, as we purchased airline tickets without baggage so we only brought 1 back pack. We went to the toilets in the hotel lobby to brush our teeth, wash our face and clean up. The toilets are comfortable so the clean-up activities were smooth.

After cleaning and storing our bags at the concierge, we walked towards the main entrance of the hotel, there was free shuttle bus there that would take us to Disneyland. Just stood up for a while and then the bus came, there were so many fleet that it seemed every 15 minutes a bus came and ready to take passengers to Disneyland. About 5 minutes on the bus, we came near the gate to Disneyland.

It was a drizzle day, fortunately we already brought raincoats from Jakarta. The raincoats were purchased from the Disneylands i visited earlier. It is important to bring raincoats from Jakarta, because if you buy here the price is almost Rp. 200 thousand. Any raincoat may enter, not necessarily be Disneyland's official raincoat.

After wandering around all day long we were convinced that Shanghai Disneyland is bigger than all Disneyland I've ever visited, the castle is huge, the distance between one area with other areas is quite far, my legs were sore from walking around through the day.

Well since the weather is rainy and also maybe we were too tired because of the night sleep on the plane, so not too many attractions/rides we tried, but Soaring Over Horizon is a must try!

The Castle in Shanghai Disneyland is different from other Disneyland's castles, typically Cinderella Castle is the light blue one or the Sleeping Beauty Castle is the pink one. The explanation says, the castle is the combination of the entire Disney Princesses, called Enchanted Castle. The castle is beautiful and huge.

The beautiful and huge castle adds to the enchanting fireworks show that begins at 8 pm. Every time we go to Disneyland, fireworks is the part that should not be missed because it really makes us do not want to blink and miss the moment. This is the picture of the castle when the lights on, minutes before fireworks.

For food, if you are Muslim, little choice of ‘heavy meal’ can be chosen, as most of the food clearly stated to contain or made of pork. At lunchtime we came to one of the restaurants in Disneyland, we forgot the name, but served chicken and mushroom. This package cost RMB 85 or about Rp. 170 rb including the drink.

For snacks and bread to save our stomach from lunch to dinner, they have ones with very cute shapes. The price is above the standard price of regular bread. For biscuit that looks like lolly below, it cost RMB 20 or about Rp. 40 thousand, but the taste is great, green tea flavor.

For souvenirs, it is similar to other Disneyland, there are many souvenir shops with cute designs. The souvenirs are cute, even here a lot of items are tailored to the Chinese culture, so they will not be found at other Disneyland, such as Minnie dolls wearing traditional costumes of China, but i forgot to take the photo.

Are you Star Wars fans? Here they have a special corner for Star Wars lovers. I am not really into such things, so i let my friend busy to take photos here and there.

Definitely, we felt tired from playing all day, from the 8 am until the fireworks show ended at 9 pm. Our feets were sore, our body was limp, our stomach was hungry, but we did not want to buy dinner in Disneyland anymore. So we decided to buy dinner at Starbuck in front of Disneyland entrance, so we were familiar with the taste and the price was also affordable, RMB 25 only for sandwiches or Rp. 50 thousand.

We went back to the hotel taking the free shuttle bus again. Upon arriving at the hotel I directly headed to Lotso Shop, a souvenir shop located in the Lobby to pick up my souvenirs that I bought during our visit to Disneyland earlier today. This is another benefit of staying at the Disney Resort official hotel, all the goods we buy can be directly sent to our place of stay, so we do not need to take around shopping bags all day, we are totally free to play!

Want to see the photos of the hotel? you can see it here. Anyway, we are happy to choose Toy Story hotel, it is comfortable! They also provided 6 bottled water in the room, usually hotels only provide 2 bottles, i think it really fit for people who are thirsty after playing all day at Disneyland. We cleaned up, ate, and went to sleep tight.

P.s: Shanghai Disneyland, based on my experience, is as clean as any other Disneyland I've ever been to. The toilets are also clean. Indeed, before, I was afraid to come, I'm afraid the Disneyland would be dirty, because on the Internet there are a lot of photos of unruly behavior of local Chinese visitors (throw garbage carelessly, pee carelessly, break the queue), but thankfully I did not see it all there, maybe the cast members work vigorously to prevent those things, good job Shanghai Disneyland!
